COFI TRINITY

The latest piece of addictive acid jazz comes from courtesy of upcoming Melbourne sextet Cofi, who have dropped their debut single in the form of ‘Trinity’. Every element of the band comes together to produce a stunning example of musical perfectionism: the bass and drum rhythm section of Campbell Mowat and Sam Hunt are tight and complimentary; Harry Leggatt’s guitar kicks into gear at the halfway mark as the piece explodes forward; Finn Rees’ keyboards provide futuristic synth melodies and luscious chords; the central saxophone of Yang Chen is key to the melodies that push their sound further than a typical jazz piece; and even the understated vibes/percussion of Jared Gibson add to the dense, yet perfectly mixed (by Moses Carr) texture of the track. -Dan Peeke
